Chianti Classico

Chianti Classico is located in an area between Florence and Siena and probably is the most common Tuscany wine knowed in the world wide. The famous of this area begin 300 years ago (1716) about when Cosimo III de Medici decided to define the border of the area and assign the actually name of Chianti Classino. In that time, Chianti was made just 100% Sangiovese.

Later, in 1837, Baron Ricasoli difenid new rules in the area and assigne the possibility to mix 70% Sangiovese with 15% Cannaiolo (indigenous grape) and 15% Malvasia (indigenous grape).

Actually, in order to have Chianti Classico DOCG wine, blend must to be minimum 80% Sangiovese and 20% of other grapes.

Knowed symbol “black rooster” label present in each bottle identify the area.  The Consortium of Chianti Classico, give to each farmer the rules in order to produce the Chianti Classico wine. Ther are strong rules which farmer need to follow with very attention because just at the end of all process their wine will be able or not (if they have followed all rules) to have the label Chianti Classico and the symbol represented in the label.

In the 1996, finally, Chianti Classico. The appellative DOC  (Crontrolled Denomination of Origins) or DOCG (Guaranteed Crontrolled Denomination of Origins) were introduced in order to defend the tradition of territory and intruduced also stright disciplinary about where, how and in which percentual blend wines in order to have the appellation.

The appellation ensure about where are growed up the grapes (very important because the climate and the soil in the production area influence the characteristics of the grape and of the wine which it’s obtained), how they are aged or about vinification and in which percentual minimum are blended. A Region organ (the Chamber of Commerce) authorize the analysis of the wines that have requested  to be admitted the DOC or DOCG appellations.
