Pisa and the world wide famous Leaning Tower
After your ship arrival, our tour leader will be waiting for you just outside the Cruise Terminal. There, you will board our comfortable minivan and start the Cinque Terre and Pisa Shore Excursion from Marina di Carrara Cruise Port. Our first stop will be in Pisa, one of the most famous cities in Italy thanks to the Leaning Tower. The trip from the port to Pisa will take approximately 45 minutes.
What you will see in Pisa
We will stop briefly in one of the main squares of Pisa, Piazza dei Miracoli (or Campo dei Miracoli, as the Italian Poet Gabriele D’Annunzio called it once for its artistic beauty). The renowed Leaning Tower is the bell tower of the Cathedral facing it. The tower is today about 16 perpendicular. During the years restoration works have been made to monitor and stabilize the terrain below it. The Tower, together with the Cathedral (Duomo) and the Baptistery, are all part of the architectural complex recognized by UNESCO’s as a World Heritage Site. After this stop, we will reach the second most important square in Pisa, Piazza Dei Cavalieri, which its marvellous facade designed by Giorgio Vasari.
Visit the Cinque Terre on our Shore Excursion from Marina di Carrara Cruise Port
After visiting Pisa, we will drive to Liguria region in order to reach the National Park of Cinque Terre. Our first stop will be either in Manarola or Riomaggiore (weather permitting). Like Campo dei Miracoli in Pisa, the Five Lands and the village of Portovenere with the three small islands off its coast (Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto), are a World Heritage Site. The reason is in the beauty of this environment, not altered by the man presence during the centuries. You will admire colourful small houses, nestled along the cliffs and surrounded by scenic terraced vineyards. This area is also a marine protected area. From the first village of our visit in the Ligurian Riviera, we will move preferably by ferryboat to reach the other villages. In case of bad weather conditions and impossibility of using ferryboats, we will travel by train.
The Cinque Terre villages along the Ligurian Riviera
During this full day tour, our tour guide will be with you. During you stay in the Cinque Terre, you will visit several villages. They all have in common both their natural and historical beauty. At the same, they differ from each other. Especially:
- Riomaggiore: the southernmost village, features typical housetowers,
- Manarola: the oldest of the Cinque Terre, with narrow alleys and pretty pastel squares standing out of the black cliffs,
- Vernazza: a typical fishermen village, beautiful with a small bay, a castle and a Church.
- Monterosso al Mare, the northernmost village, with a nice sandy beach.
In these villages, you can visit local shop where to by local product such as authentic Ligurian pesto sauce, limoncino, honey, extra virgin olive oil and wine.
You will love Monterosso in the Cinque Terre
Monterosso is the largest village in Cinque Terre. A small promontory divides it into two parts. On one side you find the beautiful Fegina Beach, the only sandy beach on the Ligurian Riviera. On the other side, you find the old church with romantic narrow streets full of bar, restaurants and shops. When getting here by boat, you are directly in front of this area. According to Forbes, Fegina Beach in Monterosso is one of the most beautiful beaches in the world (Forbes 2006).
