Departure from your hotel in Montecatini directly to the city of Pisa
Our staff will meet you directly at your accomodation in Montecatini. From your accomodation, we will drive straight to the city of Pisa, worldwide famous for the marble Leaning Tower.
Our first stop will be in the most important square of Pisa, Piazza dei Miracoli, where the tower is located. But the indipendent bell tower is not the only building to be in the square. Indeed, you find here a much bigger architectural complex. Moreover, it is today a World Heritage Site. You find also the Cathedral, the Baptistry and the Camposanto (Graveyard). Surely, the Tower is more known than the otheer buildings for its singular position. After many restoration works over the years, today it leans to 13.5 feet. The tower started leaning a little time after its construction because of the terrain sinking below it. The marble buildings are surrounded by a nice green lawn, where locals and students like to lie down on sunny days.
What you will see on our Private Tour in Pisa
We must admit that the Leaning Tower is one of the most important attractions in Pisa. However, Pisa is not only in Piazza dei Miracoli. The city is very rich in art and history and it played an important role in the past. Indeed, Pisa was the second of the Maritime Republics with Genoa, Venice and Amalfi. In addition, it is today a very important academic centre and many students choose Pisa for their studies. La Normale is the most popular university and it was founded by Napoleon. After seeing the Leaning Tower, we will move to Piazza Dei Cavalieri, with a beautiful facade decorated by Giorgio Vasari. Moreover, you will have a nice view over the river Arno and the Lungarno, the river streets full of elegant palaces and shops. If you wish, you can enjoy a good gelato (ice cream) in this area.
Visit a traditional pasta factory in the county of Pisa
Pasta represents part of our cultural heritage and we think you should learn more about it. For this reason, we thought to bring you to a traditional pasta factory located in the county of Pisa. At the Pastificio Martelli, you will hear about pasta making in a place ran by the same family since 1926. They still make pasta following the old traditions instead of modern machineneries. They even pack each yellow package of pasta by hand, one by one. Ps: this is not just a touristic place, but a real active pasta factory. Therefore, the pastificio is closed on Sundays and during holidays.
