Siena: What You Will See during Your Day Tour
After visiting San Gimignano, we will drive through the countryside until Siena. You will love this old town with its medieval walls and its narrow streets, full of typical restaurants.
You will start your tour in the suggestive shell-shaped Piazza del Campo. This square is very famous for the traditional horse race called Palio. This historical race is very important for locals and many visitors come here to join the event twice a year. Our guide will tell you about this old tradition and the competing contrade (town’s districts). Indeed, the Palio is not only a horse race, but it originates from these old rivalries.
During your free time, you can visit the stunning cathedral of Siena, the Duomo (entrance is not included). You can admire the superb marble panels covering its entire floor. Around 40 different artists worked on this mosaic between the 14th and the 16th century.
