From the Cruise Terminal in Livorno to Campo dei Miracoli in Pisa
It will take half an hour to get to Pisa from Livorno . Once there, we will stop by the Field of Miracles (Campo dei Miracoli) for photographs.
The famous tower leans about 16 feet. Therefore, works were often made to to make the building stable. But the Leaning Tower is not the only attraction here. Indeed, you find the Duomo and the Baptistery. “Campo dei Miracoli” was not the original name for the square, but it was given for the words used by the famous poet Gabriele D’Annunzio. Once he flied over the city and he was amazed by the view of the square from the plane.
Our next stop will be in the square of Piazza Dei Cavalieri, with its great facade designed by Giorgio Vasari. Enjoy a nice view over Lungarno the picturesque street along the river.
Exclusive Tour of Florence
Florence will be our second stop in Tuscany. On the way to the city centre, you will see the old city gate, Porta Romana and the Palazzo Pitti (Pitti Palace). This palace was the former residence of the Medici family. Surely you heard about them, since it was very powerful in Florence. As a matter of fact, many objects and paintings in the museums in Florence belonged to them. Behind Palazzo Pitti, you can enjoy the view over the suggestive Boboli Gardens.
Our expert will tell you about the history of Florence. First of all, you will visit the important square of Piazza della Signoria. Among the impressive attractions, the colorful marble Duomo and the Bell Tower. Also, you will see the Baptistry. This last builduing became famous for its bronze doors, that Michelangelo liked to call “the Gates of Paradise”.
The Uffizi Gallery and the Gallery of the Academy: the heart of the Florence Art
Not far from Piazza della Signoria, you find the important Uffizi Galleries (consider the skip-the-line option). Here you can admire the unique masterpieces of Michelangelo, Botticelli, Raffaello, Leonardo Da Vinci. In addition, you have the chance to visit Accademia Gallery. In this museum the original statue of the David by Michelangelo is located. Ponte Vecchio (the Old Bridge), symbol of Florence, is full of jewelry shops. Also, walking along the Arno river, you can enjoy the romantic charm of Florence. From the big panoramic terrace Piazzale Michelangelo, you can enjoy a wonderful view. Surely it is the best spot for taking pictures of the capital city of Tuscany.
Free Time for Lunch and Shopping in Florence
If you like shopping, you can visit the shops and look for hand made jewelry or souvenirs. Otherwise, if you love eating, you should try one of its trattoria. Surely, you can have some local food and some good pasta! Anyway, our driver wil be happy to advise you the best places where to go.

We arrived on the NCL Epic. Wanting to have some control over our time rather than the cruise tours, we decided on using BellaItalia.
This turned out to be a GREAT decision!
A minivan with driver was booked for the day to transport 6 adults.
The driver was excellent and provided fun and interesting information as we made the drive from the port to Florence. He even shared jis favorite gelato spot and coffee spot, both of which added fun to our day.
Our driver and van were easy to find as we entered the port building.
The van was a recent model Mercedes in very good shape making for a comfortable drive.
BellaItalia arranged for our museum tickets in advance and all went smoothly.
We made changes to our schedule through the day as distractions made for some enjoyable opportunities. Having a private driver made this possible.

We arranged to have a tour guide pick us up from Livorno and take us to Pisa and Florence and added on skip the line passes for the Academia so we could see the statue of David. Our tour guide Simona was amazing, she made the entire day very easy for us and did a great job of telling us information she thought would be interesting for us. She gave us a map with a suggested walking route for our free time and even offered to make a reservation for lunch.
Truly a great experience and made our day truly memorable.

Had a great time visiting the Pisa Tower and the Accademia, as well as exploring the surrounding areas. Our driver/guide (Simona) was very knowledgeable and provided many tips on what to do and were to go. Got us back to the cruise terminal in plenty of time. Highly recommend her and this excursion.

We had an amazing tour of Pisa and the Academy with Luigi, who was by far the best guide we had during our ten day cruise of Italy and Greece. He brought the history of Pisa and Florence to life for us all, spoke excellent English, and had no trouble engaging our teens/college-aged kids, either. Very nice car, as well, and we appreciated all of his tips about enjoying the local delicacies of Florence!
We had a minivan for 8 family with Simona for the day. As it was a private tour, we were able to shape it the way we wanted – and chose to focus our time in Florence, with a short stop in Pisa to take photos at the tower – and we didn’t do the wine tasting. Simona was fantastic – engaging and fun and was very happy to be flexible on the day. Her recommendations for our time in Florence were great, including a restaurant for lunch and a gelato stop. We did the private shore excursion from Livorno of Pisa and Florence/the Academy and it was AMAZING. Our extremely knowledgeable tour guide had perfect English and had us enthralled the entire time, whether he was sharing the history of Pisa or giving us tips on where to get the best gelato. We went with our teen son and college age daughter and son and just had an amazing time. The car was also very nice.
Francesco was an amazing guide on what we made into a very long day with time limitations. Meeting at the cruise doors as we come out is an amazing extra that we appreciated. The NCL Breakaway had an overnight stay so we hit the ground running early and the drive to Pisa was busy due to a local train strike and we had a great view early in the morning of the backside of Pisa for perfect photo-ops. We continued to Florence and when faced with more traffic, everything was handled like a pro. We had great directions and maps to get to the Uffizi and how to get around and how to meet up again. We really appreciated the stories, the great English explanations and the van was nice. We did have to leave Florence by 2:00pm to get to Michelangelo’s Square and back to port but he kept everything moving and got us back with plenty of time. Thank you
