From Livorno Cruise Port directly in Tuscany Hills
We will pick-up you and your group directly from your cruise port (we have pass to reach the cruises inside the port) with our comfortable Minivan to reach our first stop through the picturesque Tuscany Hills.
We will travel along a panoramic road through the countryside of Tuscany to arrive to the beautiful Roman and Medieval villages of Volterra, which seems as though it has been frozen in time.
Volterra: an Unforgettable Town to Visit in Tuscany
Volterra is a walled mountaintop town, famous for its alabaster production and for its Etruscan walls of which there are still standing ruins.
During the panoramic road to Volterra, you will see its unique clay hills, where there are a lot of quarries of alabaster. As said, alabaster is one of the most used raw material from local craftsmen to make beautiful handmade artifacts.
What You Will Admire during Your Private Tour in Volterra
Once arrived in Volterra, we will let you admire the impressive Roman Theatre, built during the 1st century bc and excavated in the 1950s, and you will be leaded through the narrow streets and small squares of the town to discover:
- Piazza dei Priori, with the famous Palazzo dei Priori
- the Palazzo Pretorio (external)
- the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta
- the Etruscan City Walls with the ancient Etruscan port
- the Medicean Fortress
It will be a fascinating walk through Etruscan, Medieval and Renaissance courts, during which you will visit the traditional shops of alabaster and local crafts. In Volterra you will have free time for shopping or to get lost in the history of this town.
After visiting Volterra we will move to our next stop, a small and charming village called Bolgheri.
Bolgheri and its Most Famous Wineries
Bolgheri is a small, elegant village on the Tuscan coast of Italy, in the province of Livorno, renowned for its wine, understated beauty, and timeless atmosphere.
It is most famously approached by the Viale dei Cipressi, a straight, nearly five-kilometer avenue lined with centuries-old cypress trees that has become one of the most iconic landscapes in Tuscany.
The Viale dei Cipressi (Avenue of Cypresses) is described so eloquently in the poem by the Giosuè Carducci, the first Italian poet to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.
The village itself is compact and charming, centered around a medieval castle and a stone gate that opens into a quiet piazza with cafés, wine bars, and artisan shops.
Bolgheri is internationally known for its wine culture. It is the birthplace of the “Super Tuscan” movement, producing prestigious wines such as Sassicaia, Ornellaia, and Masseto. The surrounding countryside is a mosaic of vineyards, olive groves, and gentle hills, with the Tyrrhenian Sea nearby influencing the climate and giving the wines their distinctive balance and elegance.
This exclusive tour is the perfect addition to your Italian holiday, visiting some of the best wineries in Tuscany, in one of its most picturesque areas, Bolgheri.
The winery
To complete the tour we’ll stop at a winery. There are a lot of good wineries in the area and we’ll choose one for you in order to discover the Supertuscan wines and to have a relaxing time.
What is a Super-Tuscan Wine?
Super Tuscan wine is an unofficial categorization used to identify small productions of wines that are made combining local grape varieties with uncommon blends in Tuscany, like Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon. This combination allows to create wines with excellent tastes.
Tasting the wine admiring the beauty of the Tuscan countryside is probably the most beautiful experience.
