Volterra is a walled mountaintop town, famous for its alabaster production and for its Etruscan walls of which there are still standing ruins.

During the panoramic road to Volterra, you will see its unique clay hills, where there are a lot of quarries of alabaster. As said, alabaster is one of the most used raw material from local craftsmen to make beautiful handmade artifacts.

It is most famously approached by the Viale dei Cipressi, a straight, nearly five-kilometer avenue lined with centuries-old cypress trees that has become one of the most iconic landscapes in Tuscany.

The Viale dei Cipressi (Avenue of Cypresses) is described so eloquently in the poem by the Giosuè Carducci, the first Italian poet to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.

The village itself is compact and charming, centered around a medieval castle and a stone gate that opens into a quiet piazza with cafés, wine bars, and artisan shops.

Bolgheri is internationally known for its wine culture. It is the birthplace of the “Super Tuscan” movement, producing prestigious wines such as Sassicaia, Ornellaia, and Masseto. The surrounding countryside is a mosaic of vineyards, olive groves, and gentle hills, with the Tyrrhenian Sea nearby influencing the climate and giving the wines their distinctive balance and elegance.
