Locals often refer to San Gimignano as the “Manhattan of the Middle Ages”. Indeed, you will see its singular skyline in the distance when we drive towards the town. There were more than 70 towers originally. They were symbol the of wealth. However, San Gimignano will surprise you not only for its ancient traditions, but also for the tasty wine and food offer. In fact, the town of San Gimignano is surrounded by vineyards and olive trees.
The town offers amazing views of Tuscany from its panoramic point.
At San Gimignano you will find some beautiful boutique shops that sell ceramic, leather, wine and local products. And of cours you cannot miss the best ice-cream places.
Siena: What You Will See during Your Day Tour
After visiting San Gimignano, we will drive through the countryside until Siena. You will love this old town with its medieval walls and its narrow streets, full of typical restaurants.
You will start your tour in the suggestive shell-shaped Piazza del Campo. This square is very famous for the traditional horse race called Palio. This historical race is very important for locals and many visitors come here to join the event twice a year. The Palio is not only a horse race, but it originates from these old rivalries.
During your free time, you can visit the stunning cathedral of Siena, the Duomo (entrance is not included). You can admire the superb marble panels covering its entire floor. Around 40 different artists worked on this mosaic between the 14th and the 16th century.
