From Viareggio-Lido di Camaiore to Siena: history and art in the heart of Tuscany
After San Gimignano, we will drive to Siena. It is very beautiful from many points of view. You find history, art and traditions. Indeed, the town is famous for a horse race, which takes place in the main square, Piazza del Campo. The competition is called Palio and dates back to the 17th century. It comes from the rivalries between the town districts (contrade). Furthermore, the city develops around this shell shaped square with nice narrow streets and old brick buildings.
In Siena, you will feel like in the middle Ages for one day. As a matter of fact, the historic centre of Siena belongs to the UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
